Founder Gary Snyder and Co-founder and Director Garth Greenan are pleased to announce the opening of their new space, Gary Snyder Gallery, at 529 West 20th Street in New York's Chelsea Arts District. Opening on September 22, 2011, the gallery focuses on mid-twentieth century American art, with a particular emphasis on artists who emerged during the 1960s.

“I am excited to be launching this new business, in partnership with Garth Greenan. It combines my work over the last two decades with Garth's specialized knowledge of a particular moment in American art,” explains Snyder.

Gary Snyder Gallery's inaugural exhibition, “Nicholas Krushenick: A Survey,” will be the most comprehensive presentation of the artist's work in almost twenty years. Fifteen of Krushenick's brilliantly colored, abstract paintings will be on view, as well as a selection of collages and preparatory drawings, many of which have never before been exhibited. A 140-page monograph will accompany the exhibition, with contributions from John Yau, Tom Burckhardt, Kathy Butterly, Mary Heilmann, Thomas Nozkowski, David Reed, and Ira Richer.

Currently, Gary Snyder Gallery represents fifteen artists of different generations including: Thomas Downing, Audrey Flack, Ralph Humphrey, Tadaaki Kuwayama, Nicholas Krushenick, Gerald Laing, Al Loving, Sven Lukin, Howard Mehring, George Sugarman, and Richard Van Buren, among others.

“I've always been fascinated by historiography. Why do we talk about some artists instead of others? What makes an artist's career? These are the questions that interest Gary and I. Hopefully, through our gallery programs, we can provide some answers,” says Greenan.

Designed by Stuart Baseeches of biproduct, the new, 5000 square-foot gallery features eleven-foot ceilings, and striking views of Lower Manhattan.
