Taking place from 28 to 30 June, Mayfair Art Weekend returns this year with a diverse showing of painting, installation and events at a number of leading London venues. From galleries such as Hauser & Wirth and Kamel Mennour to shops including Alaïa, and all along the streets of Mayfair and St James’s, there are enough shows to keep art-lovers invigorated all weekend. The Philadelphia-born artist’s first UK solo show features a selection of collage works developed since 2010, as well as large-scale spray paintings from the 1970s. During this latter period, she completed her studies at Yale, became the first black woman to be appointed to the MoMA’s curatorial staff and co-founded the pioneering feminist A.I.R. Gallery. This ground-breaking spirit is captured in Pindell’s vivid abstract designs from throughout her career: grids and circles reappear in a uniquely emancipated take on pointillism.
