The first posthumous exhibition of Jaune Quick-to-See Smith’s work in a public gallery or museum, Wilding presents paintings and a large canoe sculpture made by the artist especially for Fruitmarket, along with a selection of paintings from throughout her career. With important works from her I See Red series of the 1980s, examples of her iconic Map paintings, and several pieces from her recent Tierra Madre series, the exhibition is an opportunity to get to know the compelling work of the late artist, activist, educator and curator.
An illustrated catalogue accompanies the exhibition and features text from Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, Fiona Bradley, Suzanne Fricke, Laura M. Evans, Lowery Stokes Sims, and Neal Ambrose-Smith.
