Garth Greenan Gallery is pleased to announce 36 Works on Paper, an exhibition of works on paper at 545 West 20th Street. Opening on Thursday, July 18, 2019, it spans seven decades, including drawings by seventeen artists, from Rosalyn Drexler’s found-paper work incorporating naive lettering to a meticulously rendered Mark Greenwold graphite composition.

Works in the exhibition vary in approach from a 28-by-37-inch paper collage by Al Loving to a Richard Van Buren measuring less than two-by-six inches. The artists have used a wide range of materials to make these works. Allan D’Arcangelo embellished found photographs with acrylic, ink, and collage. Ralph Humphrey used casein and flocking to make his drawing. Gladys Nilsson chose watercolor, while Howardena Pindell turned to manila file folders and glitter. The works by Paul Feeley and Nicholas Krushenick variably make use of watercolor, acrylic, and ink on paper. Despite the shared medium, each work displays a quality of line that is immediately recognizable and unique to the artist.

The exhibition also includes work by Peter Blake, Victoria Gitman, Art Green, Roy McMakin, Norbert Prangenberg, Alexis Smith, and Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, among others.

36 Works on Paper will be on view at Garth Greenan Gallery, 545 West 20th Street (between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues), through Friday, August 9th.
